Dunrunnin: A supportive, welcoming and knowledgeable kennel
When we decided to welcome a furry ball into our lives and felt that greyhounds might fit the bill, we looked at various kennels in the vicinity of London. Dunrunnin stood apart by its friendly, approachable website which featured its team of volunteers, something which really spoke to us and encouraged us to come and have a look..
My other-half thought it would be great to just go for a visit, asks questions (we both work full-time and live in a flat with no garden) but nothing more (I was slightly doubtful on that point). We arrived and were impressed by the informal friendly setting, felt our questions were answered knowledgeably and were straight away supported by the positive, inclusive attitude of the volunteers, in spite of our home circumstances, we didn't feel any rejection. We were shown the different dogs in the kennels and... we fell in love. We were straight away given the opportunity to go for a wander with our Gwinnie (Tippi at the time!). As soon as the walk was over, my other-half asked to reserve her, his 'questions only' approach did not work out.
The home visit process was informal and friendly but also extremely practical where the volunteers home-checker gave sensible and helpful advice and answered my 10,000 questions. They also recommended an excellent Facebook group which offer an excellent network of support to anyone adopting from the kennel.
Throughout the process and after, Karen, the branch manager, offered simple, no-nonsense guidance and inspired straight away a lot of trust. Even now we discovered that, in doubt, speak to Karen :) .
It is no surprise that this Kennel has such a strong level of volunteer support, they were everywhere, involved, knowledgeable, appreciated and all absolutely passionate about the wellbeing of every animal in the kennel. It is really what struck us the most.
Thank you to the Dunrunnin team for making a dream come true and making our family whole.

The team of staff who run the kennels are dedicated, knowledgeable and caring. The dogs are well looked after and happy. We had a really positive experience and would recommend them to others. They were helpful and knew the greyhounds in their care. We were matched with an excellent dog who has made a huge difference to our family. He has the perfect temperament for our children and is ,loving and affectionate. We love greyhounds!

We visited Dunrunnin in October 2015 as we were considering a companion friend for German Shepherd and were keen on the idea of a greyhound. On arriving we were warmly greeted by Karen and her team and were shown a number of animals that they would have considered suitable for us. We were encouraged to take our chosen dog on a number of walks before adopting him (as well as with our current dog to make sure they got on) in a way of getting to know him before we took him home; and we have to say we are so pleased with Trigger we couldn't imagine life without him and can only thank Karen and her team for helping us find him.

We have rehomed 9 greyhounds now. One year ago we adopted a dog and bitch from dunrunnin kennels in faulkham, kent. They are lazy, lovable, affectionate dogs, only need short walks , and need to be loved. They make perfect pets. They deserve a chance in life like any other dog.

We re-homed Merty from Dunrunnin about 8 weeks ago. As this was our very first dog ever we were quite nervous about taking on such a big commitment but could not commend enough the way in which Karen handled the process for us from beginning to end. Karen is obviously a very caring and committed dog lover who loves to see her dogs end up in the right homes with suitable owners. The whole team offered us valuable advice and made us feel comfortable and reassured. Merty has settled in fabulously, she's enjoying all the comforts of retirement and has become a very valuable member of the family.

I adopted a beautiful little greyhound girl from Dunrunnin the process was easy and friendly the only problem being wanting to take home all the gorgeous greyhounds .Unfortunately my girl broke her leg whilst having a sprint round a field I was able to contact the kennels easily and found the advice and support invaluable .

Very happy with the whole procedure the staff at Dunrunin rehoming kennel were very helpful and made the adoption of Lucy very quick and easy, but always keeping Lucy's welfare their top priority. And was contacted after adoption just to see how lucy was doing and to see if i had any problems or any questions i needed answering.

Karen was very welcoming, listened to our circumstances then introduced us to every dog there telling us whether or not she thought they would be suitable (cat trainable). She clearly understood the dogs and their individual needs! As a result Bo has settled in extremely well. Strongly recommend greyhound ownership.

Karen at Dunrunnin was very understanding of our family and its needs. She was very patient and kind. Karen contacted me a couple of weeks after we had taken Mick home with us to see if everything was okay. I sent Karen a picture of Mick to assure her he was settling in well. I was invited to keep in contact and let them know if there was any problem they could help with. Karen was lovely.

I had a fantastic experience adopting from Dunrunnin and cannot recommend them highly enough.
The owner was very welcoming and knowledgeable, helpful, and her love for the dogs was obvious. The place was warm and welcoming, I was given as much time as I needed to get to know the available dogs with no pressure, and plenty of advice and information was given.
She made the whole adopting process thoroughly enjoyable and I can't thank her and Dunrunnin enough for my lovely bitch.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others or to use them again in the future.

All at Dunrunnin do such a great service to the rehoming process of 'Ex Racing Greyhounds', from taking them in after their racing days are over, caring for all their individual needs to finally handing them over to their new owners.
On arriving at the kennels you will be warmly welcomed, shown all the dogs available for adoption, told about each individual dogs nature and personality and suitability for your home. You will be encouraged to walk any of the dogs in the lovely surrounding countryside, but you will not feel pressurised into making a snap decision. I would recommend several visits, walking a variety of dogs/bitches/sizes/colours before one will pick YOU!
If you are considering giving a home to a Grey, then Dunrunnin at Brands Hatch is the the place to start your search.
One note of caution, owning a Greyhound is addictive.

We had a really fantastic experience when we adopted our greyhound from Dunrunnin. We were welcomed back for several visits to walk different dogs before choosing, and were given all the advice we needed about their different personalities, needs etc. In the end, the manager helped us choose a dog who fits perfectly into our family - we all adore him. In fact we are such greyhound converts thanks to this wonderful rehoming kennels that we are shortly returning to choose a second one, and already have been sent a list of suggested suitable candidates from the website. Thank you for bringing Reilly into our lives.

A wonderful greyhound trust kennel. The manager obviously loves her work running the kennel and has a great team supporting her. The individual kennels for 1 to 2 dogs were clean and spacious. She was very knowledgable about each dog and appeared to love them all! She had a great sense of humour too. There was a constant stream of volunteer walkers arriving and leaving whilst we were there. We took 3 dogs for a walk and had difficulty choosing between them, but decided on "King" in the end. He has been with us for 2 months now and is such a lovely dog. He settled quickly and gives us pleasure every day.

I cannot praise Dunrunnin Kennels enough. The propietor and her helpers are a dedicated, knowledgeable and loving group of people who truly care about the dogs. Time is taken to get to know the dogs in her care to ensure they go to the right home. Plenty of advice is given on the care and retraining of the Greyhounds (the majority of whom are ex racers). I would have no hesitation in returning there should I decide to get another dog.

I can't recommend Dunrunnin enough! the excellent team provide such first rate care and love for their dogs!
Unfortunately some people may still have misconceptions about Greyhouonds but they are beautiful well natured dogs and so easy to look after. However, because of spending all their lives in racing/kennels with just other greyhounds it is a huge adjustment for them to get used to all the things other dogs would take for granted, and possibly if there were short term volunteer fosterers this would help the adjustment/ transition process and free up much in demand kennel space as there are a continuous supply of ex racing young dogs in need of rehoming.
The web site is very good, but ideally I would like to see more detail about the dogs age, history, personality and suitability for different home environments. As there are so many dogs to choose from it can be overwhelming to decide so you may wish to make a shortlist based on your home requirements before visiting the kennels. I have been a volunteer walker for several months and even in that short time it has been heartwarming to see many lovely dogs be rehomed!
I'm sure many more people would rehome a greyhound if they visited Dunrunnin, met the dogs and see all the hard work the friendly team do; so I recommend you just visit and take a dog for a walk in the lovely woodland nearby and see for yourself what fantastic companions these dogs would be in your life !
Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers, keep up the excellent work !

A very welcoming and friendly kennel. Assessment of each dog is spot on and offers more specific descriptions compared to other rehoming websites. Match of owner with dog is perfect. The kennels are dark and need an upgrade to provide better living conditions for the greyhounds but they can only work with what they've got - and do a fantastic job! Well done. Highly recommended.

Karen (Farley) and her team of volunteers were very warm and welcoming. A friendly, knowledgable, calm and obviously very caring group of volunteers who knew the personalities of all their charges. We were given information in a practical, honest and informative way. Karen seems to have a 6th sense when pairing her dogs with prospective families. Our family life is now overwhelmingly enhanced with Mario in his forever home. Never having known much about retired greyhounds, we are now very enthusiastic about spreading the word of these beautiful dogs! Thank you so very much Dunrunnin.
