This rescue is for mostly KC registered Alaskan Malamutes. I found the rescue co-coordinator extremely knowledgeable and professional at all times. All her own dogs were in great condition as were all the others on the walk we attended before we obtained our rescue dog from Middlesex.
The rescue helped us financially with the travel expenses and the dog was in a decent home before we rescued him.
Apart from general administration issues i.e paperwork not acceptable, wording and tone is fairly dictatorial. Some of the general management of admin needs to be properly presented and organised better.
Overall we will continue to be a part of this rescue and have applied to be volunteers. they do a wonderful job and i know they are all dedicated to the cause, which is helping the dogs primarily.

AMCUK Rescue are the most wonderful and caring group of people you could ever wish to meet. Their knowledge of the dogs up for adoption was full and concise. I was given great advice in what I should do before even meeting any of the Malamutes and was informed of good literature to read regarding the breed as to make sure my homework was thoroughly complete and I knew what the adopted dog would require of me. They thoroughly asses all dogs as to ensure that they are re homed in the best possible place. This may mean waiting a short while if there is not a dog suitable for you but better that than an incorrect re homing only leading to problems at a later date. Every aspect of AMCUK Rescue is professional

We live on a tiny island off the Scottish coast. We already had an Alaskan Malamute from a pup and where looking to find a kennel mate for her and to share trips out with me on the bike. Because we are so remote from Mainland UK this presented many problems. Home visits not practical. Meeting prospective dogs also not really an option. Getting the adopted dog up here difficult.
I have to say that AMUK rose to every challenge with thought and care. Masses of e-mails flying back and forth. Probing questions as to how we were going to approach giving a rescue Mali a home for life, always putting the well being of the dog first. This inspired us. We wanted to give the dog the very best we could, and we were able to show with drawings of our property, photo's of the living quarters etc. that we meant business. We asked many questions about the dogs available and had good answers back. In the end we chose Zoro based on what we wanted and the advice given. He was kennelled in Glasgow and had been looked after fantastical by the kennel folk since he had been taken into care by AMUK. He took to us from the word go, and made the trip North. He has been with us for about a year and he is an absolute joy to have in our pack.
I cant thank AMUK enough for the hard work and diligence in putting the dogs first but helping, advising and going the extra mile for the humans involved.

We already had a malamute dog when we thought about rescuing one. The rescue centre where very open about the personality of all the dogs and bitches in their care, and gave loads of advice about which one might have suited us. We were encouraged to meet and walk with our prospective addition with our current dog and take as long a time as we needed. Once adopted we had a few personality and settling in issues and found that members of the rescue team were always on hand to help, advise, encourage and support us. There were times when it was very tough but we are now 3 years on with a wonderful bitch who has taught us a lot about ourselves and it's all down to their dedication. Our relationship with malamutes and the rescue centre and club will be a lifelong bond.

We adopted our beloved boy Thunder back in May 2010 via the AMCUK Rescue. After completing the initial forms they were very quick to arrange a thorough home check and I was impressed with how in depth the check was with us and not like some places that are just desperate to off load their animals onto just anyone. After passing this phase we we're updated with information on available dogs that were best suited to our situation and they went on to arrange the initial visits. In the end we only went on one visit as we fell in love with Thunder immediately and the arrangements were made for our adoption. I have to say I think they made a 100% perfect match and we haven't looked back. Very grateful to the volunteers at this rescue for bringing Thunder into our lives.

Our journey started out after having lost our 3 beloved family pets. Whilst looking online for a sled for our daughter to use in the snow, we came across the AMCUK Rescue website and with having experience with Northern Breeds we completed an application form. We were contacted very quickly and our home check was arranged within days of our application being considered, even though it was Christmas/New Year. We passed our home check and provisionally selected some Malamutes that were available for adoption that we felt would be suitable for our family. On the 10th January 2011, we went to meet the dogs we had selected. Danewalk offered fantastic advice about the dogs we were there to meet and after a lengthy chat we got to meet a very special "older" boy. Nanook was our daughter's favourite from the beginning and after meeting him and spending time with him, we felt he could definitely join our family. Fortunately AMCUK Rescue agreed and we bought him home. 6 months on we did have an incident where Nanook bit our daughter and we had to seriously consider whether we could continue to work with him and offer him and our daughter a safe environment. AMCUK Rescue and Danewalk supported us every step of the way with our concerns and offered help and advice. I am pleased to say that 3 years on, our gorgeous boy has his feet firmly under the table and has definitely found his forever home. We cannot praise AMCUK Rescue and Danewalk enough for the care and support that they offer, even to this day. Thank you

We adopted Ishka when she was only 18 months old, she will be 9 years old in October and still acts like the pup which we collected all those years ago. She is a total clown but we just love her to bits, she is definitely unique! Her only issue was that she seriously pulled on the lead, but after a lot of patience and persistence (and various head collars & a walking belt) she walks much better, so much so that I can walk her with our other mally Jake too. Because of Ishka we have made some lovely friends through AMCUK Rescue and I have also in the past helped with home checks in my local area.

AMCUK isn't based in one location specifically as rescue dogs are boarded /fostered all over the country and I applied to adopt a Malamute through the website. My application was dealt with promptly and a home assessment arranged very quickly. The volunteers were very thorough and I had a couple of very long conversations before the visit. Advice was given freely and I had 3 contact numbers for support. I was also sent info packs about training vets etc with the foster / adoption paperwork.
My rescue happened very quickly as a puppy came up for adoption / foster so it was handed over by the original owner and transported to me within 48 hours. My dog was poorly and full of fleas but this was nothing to do with the rescue it was from the previous owner. The great thing was that my dog was taken out of a bad situation and rehomed in a very short time. They were great with advice and answered my continual questions in the first few months and are still there for advice when I need it. I will be getting my next Malamute from the AMCUK rescue withut any hesitation. Great service and people.

Difficult to answer your questions as AMCUK is scattered all over the country and run by volunteers. Dogs are housed in kennels, foster homes or kept with owners until foster/ adoption takes place. The initial process is carried out online and via telephone calls and messages until the home visit is set up. You are then matched with suitable dogs (very successfully I might add) and visit with these dogs wherever they may be housed to see if it feels right. The dog is then fostered for 6 weeks to see if all goes well and then adopted after that. It is all very professional, paperwork etc. money is collected by merchandising, donations, sponsored events, fun days etc. if there is a down side it is the number of dogs needing rescuing/ homing and the volunteers working all hours. I help by doing home visits in my locality or picking a dog up to transport but it is my way of saying thank you for two wonderful Mals.
